SOCIAL JUSTICE COMMITTEE

The Social Justice Committee of the Severna Park United Methodist Church believes in stewarding God's resources for a sustainable future (natural world), sharing the love of Christ with everyone and investing in the lives of children and youth (social community), and striving to bring Christ-like justice to our community and the world (political and economic community).

Without duplicating existing SPUMC missions activities, the Social Justice Committee will work toward spreading Christs love in some of the following ways:

1) address environmental health and environmental racism (natural world);

2) explore the potential for bi-lingual tutoring (e.g., sign language), after-school subject matter tutoring and adopt-a-school programs, and a response to hate crimes (social community);

3) consider the role of criminal and restorative justice, which holds a person accountable to the victim and society, and take a look at gun control (political community); and

 4) examine a number of economic community  issues, for example, economic justice, gambling, globalization and trade, and poverty.
