United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM)
is a missionary program within the General Board of Global Ministries of
the United Methodist Church whereby Christians, both lay and clergy, may
offer their skills and talents for Christian service at home and around
the world on short term assignments. The theme of the UMVIM is
“Christian Love In Action”.
Since 1988,
the Volunteers in Mission (VIM) Committee at SPUMC have organized teams
to do God's work locally, nationally and abroad. Teams have served
in Africa, Russia, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Costa Rica,
Grenada, Jamaica, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Alaska, North Carolina, West
Virginia, Iowa, South Dakota, Alabama, Mississippi and Maryland. Trips
vary in length from a weekend to more than a week. Members who venture out of there comfort
zones to help those in need find that they are the ones who are truly
changed in ways they had never expected.
What we do!
God has given us all unique skills and gifts.
We use our abilities to share the love of Christ in multiple ways
whether we serve in our own backyard or in another country. Mission
projects include construction and rehabilitation of church buildings,
assistance in disaster relief, teaching, and in other worthwhile church
related projects.
Funding for supplies, construction material
and travel is provided through SPUMC’s Ministries budget, direct
contributions, the proceeds of Sunday brunches, garage sales and
other fund raisers conducted by VIM members and by team members who each
pay a portion of the trip cost.
Are you ready to serve Him by serving others?
VIM considers every person active at SPUMC
to be an active member of VIM! And we believe so strongly
that serving God through mission trips can be a life-changing
and spiritually-fulfilling opportunity that VIM is committed to
sponsoring anyone active in our congregation on a VIM
mission trip.
Every person active at SPUMC has the opportunity
to go on one VIM trip and have the cost covered by the VIM funds
that we have earned through Garage Sales and VIM Brunches! The
opportunity to YOURS...now we just need you to take it!
Remember, you can go on as many trips as you like. But only
one will be covered by VIM's funds. Luckily the "normal"
out-of-pocket cost of VIM trips is not excessive...generally about
$125 for a domestic trip, and about half the airfare cost for
international trips (there may be exceptions). Is God calling

Father, who sent Jesus to show us how to live so that we can bring
glory and honor to your name,
We thank you for the opportunities you
give us to serve you by serving others.
Guide us by your Holy Spirit to know which projects you want us to
undertake.
We know that when you send us, you will equip us to do the job at hand.
We are grateful for allowing us to be Ambassadors for Christ sharing
His message of salvation and great love by putting our faith into
action.
May all that we are, and all that we do in word and deed bring others
closer to Jesus.
