Cribbery
(0-18 months): Each
Sunday the SPUMC’s Cribbery, room 106, is open from 8:00-12:00.
Regina Ross and a team of volunteers ensure that our youngest
children receive the love and care of Christ.
Preschool (18
months– 5 years): At
9:30 and 11:00 our preschoolers are divided into classes by age.
The preschool uses First Look. The First Look curriculum
gives preschool children a first impression of their loving
Heavenly Father. The curriculum keeps it simple and fun,
repeating one basic truth about God all month long. First Look
also helps children understand worship and introduces them to
small group time. It encourages children to talk to God any time
at any place. The activities tickle all the senses making
mastering the concepts a blast. Crazy fun activities to crafts
to large group Bible story and worship time to small group Bible
time, it’s all part of the plan to help a a child believe three
key things by the time they are five years old: God made me, God
Loves me and Jesus wants to be my friend forever.
Elementary School
(Kindergarten-5th grade):
Sundays at 9:30 children kindergarten
through fifth grade will meet in room 202 to begin their Sunday
school with praise to God. Classes will then depart to our
Bible based subject matter classes. One week the first
graders will learn about Jesus calling the disciples through
storytelling. The next week they will learn the same story
through science or art. This rotation model allows
children to learn the same story in a variety of methods.
The children will experience the story through art, games,
science, storytelling, music, video, computer, and cooking.
Each unit will cover a new Bible lesson and lasts 4-8 weeks.
At 11:00 elementary students do short term (4-8 weeks) Bible or
topical studies. There is a lower elementary and upper
elementary class.
Middle High & High School (6th—12th
grade):
Our Middle High and High School students
have the opportunity to connect Biblical literature to their
daily lives by participating in Sunday School, United Methodist
Youth Fellowship, and Super 6. Middle High and High School
Sunday School meet each Sunday at 9:30 and 11:00.
Special Needs Children:
We have a team of
teachers who have received special needs training and are
available to be paired with a child in a classroom with his or
her peers or to teach a class one on one. Please contact Erica
Benjamin to make these arrangements.
Communion:
Once a month children preschool– high
school participate in the sacrament of Holy Communion.
Preschool and Elementary children gather together to learn about
the sacrament prior to participating in it. Middle High
and High School youth join the congregation when participating
in it. Communion is the first Sunday of the month.
Special
Services: In
September, 3rd Graders receive a Bible and lead worship on
Christian Education Sunday. On Christmas Eve, the 2nd
graders help tell the story of Christmas by participating in a
pageant. On Palm Sunday, the children process into the
sanctuary to celebrate the beginning of Holy Week. Confirmation
is on Pentecost each year.
