Grow in Faith this Fall @ SPUMC
A new school year means new opportunities to grow in faith, friendship, and community. Join us as we offer an array of classes and groups for people to gather and reflect on living as disciples of Jesus together!
The Bible is more than a collection of stories - it's one sweeping story of God's love, faithfulness, and hope.
This year, we'll step back to see the big picture, exploring the major people, events, and themes that shape the Bible. Beginning with the Old Testament this fall and continuing into the New Testament this spring, we'll discover how these ancient stories connect with one another and with our lives today.
Together, we'll learn to read the Bible with both mind and heart - engaging our curiosity, asking thoughtful questions, and listening for God's voice along the way. Whether you're opening the Bible for the first time or have been reading it for decades, this series will help you see the story of Scripture in a fresh and meaningful way.
A Chorus of Generosity is the theme of our Fall Stewardship Campaign. We invite you to take the 30-day Generosity Challenge of everyday acts of faith and kindness. Throughout the month, you will be seeing signs of this theme in artwork around the building, worship, music, your inbox, and conversation about how our lives are blessed when we combine our individual talents and gifts in service of the good work of God in the world.
We are particularly looking for people who are willing to:
- Share a 1-Minute Witness in church on why you invest yourself and your financial support in SPUMC and/or
- Offer to Serve on our Leadership Team in some capacity.

Ready to take a deeper journey through Scripture? Join Rev. Byron on Zoom Tuesday evenings at 7:30pm, beginning October 13 and continuing through the end of May.
Together, we'll explore the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, discovering the stories, themes, people, and big-picture connections that shape our faith. Whether you're a longtime Bible reader or simply curious to learn more, all are welcome! You can register here to be included on the class list.

Moms Connect invites mothers of all stages to a One-Night Conversation on the book of Genesis with us in the Parlor on Thursday, November 12 at 7pm. We’ll watch a short Bible Project video together and then join in a discussion on these formative origin stories. No advance reading or prep is necessary! At the Welcome Desk there are still a few copies of Amy-Jill Levine’s Genesis: A Beginner’s Guide to the Beginning if you want to dig a little deeper on your own. Childcare is available if you preregister.
As the leaves begin to change and routines settle back in, fall is a great time to jump into a small group at SPUMC. Whether you're returning to a group you love or ready to try something completely new, there's a place for you.
Small groups are a chance to build friendships, explore faith, ask questions, laugh together, and grow alongside others. You don't have to have it all figured out, and you don't have to know anyone when you walk in. Just come as you are!
This fall, take a next step toward connection. Find a group, bring a friend, and see where the journey takes you.

I TAKE MY COFFEE BLACK is the first book the Faith & Race group will begin discussing this Fall at their October 27 meeting 7pm in the Parlor. In this powerful and engaging memoir, Tyler Merritt shares his experiences as a Black man in America with truth, humor, and poignancy. Copies of the book ($10) are at the Welcome Desk.

Moving forward, Faithful Foodies will officially meet on the first Tuesday of every month.

We'll gather to sip and munch on Friday, November 20 starting at 7am at The Big Bean in Millersville. Come join the conversation and enjoy some time together.

The ROMEOs will meet for breakfast and fellowship on Thursday, November 12 at 8am at The Grill (7704 D Quarterfield Rd, Glen Burnie). Join us to meet some new friends and reconnect with some folks you may already know.

Looking for some exercise, fresh air, and good conversation? Join us for Walking Wednesday! We gather behind The Big Bean (558 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd) in Severna Park and walk the Baltimore-Annapolis Trail to Earleigh Heights and back - a round trip of approximately 4 miles, less than 2 hours.
This is a fun and informal opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, get some exercise, and connect with friends along the way. Walk at your pwn pace and enjoy the fellowship!

Sanctuary Choir and SPARK Bells are rehearsing again on Thursday, Nights. Handbells meet at 6pm and Choir at 7pm almost every Thursday in room 106. New members welcome!
SPARK Worship Praise Band meets every Wednesday at 7pm in the Sanctuary.
SPARK Song for PreK-Elementary takes place as part of our Sunday School program with children singing in worship several times a year. We open Sunday School with singing and playing at 9:15am in Room 208.
